The MLA International Bibliography is one of the most important and comprehensive indexes to the critical literature in the humanities. It indexes 3,500 journals that cover language, linguistics and literature, criticism, drama, and folklore. Other document types covered include series, monographs, dissertations, bibliographies, and proceedings. Over 50,000 new entries are added each year. The print edition began in 1921;b225 as MLA American Bibliography and continued until 1965, when it expanded its coverage to include books and articles written in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, a Scandinavian language, and Dutch and became the MLA International Bibliography. The online edition covers 1963 to the present, with ten updates per year.
